Seven RTGs are on their way to be delivered at BGT. This order is a part of the 2nd phase of the greenfield project that includes upgrading and expanding the container handling capabilities and capacities at BGT. These seven high-performance RTGs will arrive in Umm Qasr mid-February.

The new RTGs, manufactured by ZPMC, will have the ability to manoeuvre containers into stacks six containers high. These new RTGs will bring the total fleet to 10 RTGs, and ensure smooth operation, even in peak periods.

Phase 2 of the expansion project, which includes the construction of two new berths (Berths 25 and 26) equipped with three STS Quay cranes (21 rows across) and seven rubber tired gantry cranes with an additional 15 Ha yard, will cover 300 meters of quay and an additional capacity of 600,000 TEUs. These new berths will transform Umm Qasr port allowing it to transition into a major port capable of efficiently handling container vessels of up to 9000 TEU.

When phase 2 completes by the end of 2019, BGT will have four berths catering for containerised traffic, offering 800m berth space and 60 hectares of yard area with a handling capacity on excess of 1 million TEUs.
