History

Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) is Iraq’s premier multi-purpose cargo handling facility. It is situated in Umm Qasr, 50 km from Basra, and 500 km from Baghdad.

BGT is a part of International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) which is an internationally recognized expert in port construction, operation, and management with more than 30 years of experience and operating in 6 continents.

Presently BGT is operating six berths catering for container, general, project, and RORO cargo supported by state-of-the-art technology in Iraq’s port sector. BGT is the first and only terminal operator in Umm Qasr capable of handling 14,000 TEU container vessels in an efficient manner in Iraq.
